Why Humans Need a Evidence-Based Archive
Heritage is not lost only when the carrier is destroyed. It disappears with the loss of context, language, origin, rights, connections between versions and the ability of the future community to discover the object and understand its meaning.

The Book of Kins answers the question “What function does a record perform within the development cycle?” The Archive answers the question “What evidence confirms provenance, integrity, rights and the history of changes?” The two layers are linked by identifiers, but neither replaces the other.

The minimum archive unit is not a file, but a related object with representations, events, agents, rights, and evidence. One cultural object may have a physical original, master file, derivative copies, translation, transcription, 3D model, and multiple interpretations.

Rights, ethics and cultural sovereignty
Openness does not mean unconditional publication. The archive is obliged to support copyright holders, personal data, secrecy, restrictions of the carrier communities and the risk of harm. For sensitive materials, the principle of “access by reasoned role and purpose” applies.
